We woke up to a damp and drizzly morning with some wind. Chad and I slipped out of the hotel early for a walk around town.
A continental breakfast is included at the hotel, so we ate in before heading out for the day.
We had a zodiac tour booked with Sea North at 11 a.m. to coincide with high tide.
Normally there are several tours operating at the same time, but due to the poor weather today, Parks Canada closed Prince of Wales Fort. As a result, it was a much larger group taking part in the estuary tour.
We were shuttled down to the port by minibus, and our guide Tory took us out on a zodiac along with 2 researchers and another couple.
We did see lots of belugas, but pretty much froze in the wind and rain in the process. Luckily, the fog that had started to move in prior to the tour starting did not get any worse and limit our visibility severely.
Getting off the boat, we met up with Alex from Discover Churchill, and confirmed plans for the rest of the week.
The minibus took us back to the hotel, where we changed out of our wet clothes and spent some time warming up. We had some leftover pizza from the night before, then Chad and I headed out on a walk around town to make dinner reservations, book a dogsled tour, and check out the town complex.
We went back to the room to pick up the kids, and headed to the Lazy Bear Cafe for dinner.
I had the arctic char, and Chad and Liam tried the bison burgers.
Back in our room again, we played another few rounds of Boggle. We continued to check the weather in the hopes that our northern lights tour might be a go, but the rain continued, and there were no lights to be seen. We made a point of coming out to hear the bear siren go off at 10 p.m., and called it a night.
