We had breakfast at the hotel again today before driving up to the Capilano Suspension Bridge. We planned our arrival so that we would be essentially the first ones into the park.

We spent close to 3 hours there, criss crossing the bridge several times, touring the gardens and wildlife displays, visiting the totem poles and completing the passport stamping activity.

Upon leaving the park we made a quick stop at the nearby salmon hatchery to see the spawning salmon up close. We went to Daisy Sandwiches in North Vancouver for lunch, and then headed over to Grouse Mountain. The kids and I rode the tram to the top of the mountain after seeing Chad off at the trailhead to the Grouse Grind.

It took him 73 minutes to reach us at the top.

At the top of the mountain we enjoyed visiting the resident grizzly bears and taking in the lumberjack show, complete with axe-throwing and log-rolling and lots of corny jokes. Before leaving we went to visit the timber wolf display, and then headed back into the city.

The kids and I had managed to talk Chad into taking us to La Casa Gelato, despite the fact that it was a bit of a hike across the city. It’s a good thing we did, because our visist was a blast. They had 218 flavours and free samples, and we had a great time trying out some crazy flavours, like wasabi and blue cheese, though we more or less settled on our old standbys (chocolate peanut butter, maple bacon, etc.)

Back at the hotel, we met up with Amy again, and went to White Spot for dinner after much debate. This wound up being a great choice as they were handing out free passes for the aquarium there that would prove to come in handy. Then it was time to say goodbye to Amy, because we were heading home the next day.
