Our next adventure: Southern Africa

School is officially out for summer in our part of the world, and that means that we are lucky enough to have a trip coming up. This year, Africa really seems to have won our hearts, because we are heading back there again. This time, we are visiting sub-Saharan Africa, with a trip planned to Victoria Falls & South Africa.

Our trip will actually take us to 4 countries, because Victoria Falls lies at the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe, and we also plan to take a daytrip into Chobe National Park in nearby Botswana while we are there. However, because you cannot purchase visas for Canadians in the Victoria Falls area until you are on the ground, and visas are sometimes in short supply, this is all just on a wishlist for now, and we’ll have to see if we can make it happen.

We are flying from Toronto to Addis Ababa on Ethiopian Airlines, then connecting through to Victoria Falls for the first leg of our trip. We’ll be staying on the Zimbabwean side of the falls, though we hope to visit both sides, plus do the daytrip to the Chobe River. From there, we’ll fly to Cape Town, where our plans include exploring the waterfront, hiking up Lion’s Head (the Table Mountain tramway is closed for an extended period for maintenance), taking a township tour, driving out to the Cape, and spending some time with the penguins at Boulders Beach. Finally, we’ll fly to Johannesburg and set out for Kruger National Park. We’ll have 5 nights in this area in total, including 2 nights outside the park gates and 3 nights on a private concession within park boundaries.

Needless to say, we are very much looking forward to this trip – it can’t come soon enough!
