This trip took place several years ago, and I didn’t write an official trip report at the time; so this is going by memory only and is bound to contain some gaps. It will mostly be a photo report since I do have good photo records.

We flew out of London in the early morning. London airport is relatively close to us, and we were able to fly direct to Calgary. The flight was uneventful but when we landed in Calgary, it was raining. It took some time for us to get our rental car picked up, but eventually we were on our way.
We headed out of town to Calgary Olympic Park. I think we stopped at a Dennys to eat before going in. The purpose of our visit was to ride the luge track, and we were lucky that even though it was raining, the luge was open. Having said that though, it was freezing cold in the rain. By the time you made a run from the top of the hill to the bottom, your exposed knuckles would be just about frozen solid. Still, we enjoyed the ride.

We took a few more photos around the park before leaving.

Finally we left, and drove on to Banff, where we stopped for the night. We checked into the High Country Inn and then headed out for a walk through town. It was not the first visit for Chad or I, but this was the first time our kids visited the Rocky Mountains and they were suitably impressed with the views. Banff is extremely pictureque.

We went to a steakhouse for dinner – we decided to have Alberta beef for dinner on our first night. And then, because I cannot resist a BeaverTail, we went to the local outlet for dessert.

This would be the first of many BeaverTails on this trip!
It had been a long travel day, so we headed back to the hotel for the night.
